Chalkboard sign with Halloween written on it surrounded by jack-o-lanterns and candles

Halloween is just around the corner! Although it’s an exciting time of fun, costumes, and social gatherings, it’s also associated with cavity-causing candy. Fortunately, there are healthier treats available if you want the kiddos in your life (or trick-or-treaters at your door) to be in on the holiday festivities, but don’t want to increase their risk of tooth decay. Here’s a short list of great Halloween candy alternatives children will love!

Candy Alternatives

  1. Stickers
  2. Kids of all ages love stickers, a cheap and simple prize. Halloween themes are available almost everywhere, so just buy sheets of stickers and cut them into individual sizes to distribute. And though they may stick to nearly anything from notebooks and water bottles to walls and car windows, they won’t stick to teeth.

  3. Glow Jewelry
  4. Items like glow bracelets and necklaces or light-up rings are a fantastic accessory for trick or treating. Since children wearing glow jewelry will be more easily seen by oncoming traffic in dark areas, parents will appreciate the added bit of safety. And kids will love the bright colors that add a bit of bling to their costume!

  5. Pencils
  6. Ghost or pumpkin themed pencils can be bought in bulk at party stores or online. Kids can use them for home projects or take them to school for a fun reminder of the “spook-tacular” fun they had on Halloween night.

  7. Costume Fun
  8. Temporary tattoos and costume mustaches are perfect for kids to play with on Halloween and the days following. Like stickers, they can be purchased in sheets and cut into individual sizes for trick-or-treaters.

  9. Non-Candy Snacks
  10. If you want to give kids a treat that won’t rot teeth, most kids love salty snacks like crackers and pretzels or wholesome mini-sized bars like KIND® and LÄRABAR®. You can buy individually wrapped packages for kids to eat on Halloween night or to take in their lunch for school.
