Livermore (also known as Livermore Valley) is a city located in Alameda County in Northern California. It has a population of around 87,000 residents and is known as the most populous city in the Tri-Valley. It’s also on the eastern edge of California’s San Francisco Bay Area. It’s home to the state’s oldest wine region and is a major scientific hub in the United States. It’s home to the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and Sandia National Laboratories. At the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, they discovered Livermorium, a relatively new element. Livermore also features a lively cultural scene with plenty of art, events, and fine-dining restaurants.
Wisdom teeth removal is exactly what it sounds like. Also called wisdom tooth extraction, it’s a dental procedure where your dental provider removes your wisdom teeth. The wisdom teeth are the four permanent teeth that are located in the back corners of your mouth. Often, these teeth don’t have enough room to grow and become impacted. When that’s the case, they need to be removed so they don’t cause pain, infection, or other dental concerns. Whether you are experiencing problems or not, many dentists and oral surgeons recommend removing these teeth so they don’t cause problems in the future.
Wisdom teeth usually start to grow in when patients are between 17 and 25 years old.
We often get the question: “Do I need to have my wisdom teeth removed?” If your wisdom teeth have come in and/or are impacted, you are likely a good candidate for wisdom tooth removal. An impacted wisdom tooth might grow in at an angle, stay trapped within the jawbone, or grow as if it’s lying down. No matter how your wisdom teeth grow in, we typically recommend the procedure, especially if you’re experiencing pain, notice food or debris trapped around the teeth, develop gum disease, or are starting to see tooth decay or cavities around the wisdom teeth.
Your wisdom tooth extraction procedure will start with the administration of general or local anesthesia. This ensures you’re completely comfortable throughout your treatment. From there, your dentist will carefully extract each tooth from the socket, ensuring they don’t damage any of the surrounding tissues or nearby teeth. How many wisdom teeth are removed will depend on your needs.
Once all your wisdom teeth are removed, you can start your recovery process. We’ll give you detailed wisdom teeth management instructions to ensure you heal properly, control bleeding, and maintain optimal oral health. At the start of your recovery, you’ll want to stick to soft or liquid foods. Drinking out of straws should be avoided completely to avoid dislodging the blood clot at the extraction site. Your oral surgeon will also prescribe pain medication to ensure you feel no severe pain or discomfort as you heal.
