About Dublin, CA

Dublin is a city and suburb of the East Bay in northern California. It’s situated within the Amador Valley in Alameda County’s Tri-Valley. It has a population of around 70,500 residents and is one of the fastest-growing wealthy cities in the United States. It’s known as a crossroads of the Bay Area as it sits at the intersection of two major interstates. It’s also home to a vast expanse of open green spaces (over 800 acres), including many parks like the Iron Horse Regional Trail, Dublin Hills Regional Park, and Emerald Glen Park. It was named Dublin due to its large Irish population. The city’s history can all be explored at the Dublin Heritage Park and Museums.

What is Dental Sedation?

Dental sedation (or sedation dentistry) is just what it sounds like. It’s sedation that’s administered during a dental procedure to ensure you’re comfortable. Whether you’re struggling with dental anxiety or simply need something to make a procedure more bearable, dental sedation is the perfect solution. While dental sedation doesn’t put you to sleep like general anesthesia does, it will make your dental treatment much less daunting.

At Dublin Corners Dental, we offer three different types of dental sedation: nitrous oxide, oral sedation, and IV sedation. Which one is right for you will depend on the procedure you’re having done, your medical history, and your unique circumstances. Our experienced dental team will guide you through the process, ensuring an anxiety-free experience.

Who is a Good Candidate for Dental Sedation?

Almost all our patients are good candidates for dental sedation. If you are experiencing dental anxiety, have a strong gag reflex, have overly sensitive teeth, are looking to relieve pain, or are scheduled to have a lengthy and complex procedure or multiple procedures, dental sedation is likely perfect for you.

That said, it’s not for everyone. Patients who are pregnant, have certain medical conditions, are on certain medications, or have had an allergic reaction to anesthesia in the past are typically not good candidates.

Types of Dental Sedation Options We Offer At Dublin Corners Dental

At Dublin Corners Dental, we offer three different options for dental sedation. Your dental professional will help you choose the best option for your unique needs.

Nitrous Oxide Sedation (Laughing Gas)

Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) is a mild form of sedation that ensures patients feel relaxed during most dental procedures. During the procedure, a small mask is placed over the nose, and you simply breathe in the nitrous oxide and oxygen.

Many patients like this sedation option because the effects wear off quickly after the mask is removed, meaning you can get back to normal activities without any lingering effects.

Oral Sedation

Oral sedation is another popular dental sedation option. It involves taking a prescribed medication before your dental appointment. This gives it time to kick in. It puts you in a deep state of relaxation and allows you to stay comfortable during your procedure, but still conscious. Many patients have no memory of the procedure afterward.

After the procedure, you may feel drowsy and need someone to drive you home.
