Livermore is a city located in Alameda County in northern California. It has a population of around 87,000 residents and is known as the oldest wine region in the state, with over 50 wineries. It’s also the most populous city in the Tri-Valley Area and on the eastern edge of California’s San Francisco Bay Area. The city is also considered a bit of a scientific hub as it’s home to the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and Sandia National Laboratories. Scientists discovered Livermorium (a relatively new element) at Lawrence in 2000. Livermore is also home to a vibrant cultural scene, with plenty of art, fine dining restaurants, and entertainment opportunities.
Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, is classified as an infection or inflammation of the gums and the bone that supports the teeth. There can be a number of causes and risk factors of gum disease, including poor oral hygiene and smoking, but some people are simply more prone to the disease even with proper brushing and flossing.
Some symptoms of gum disease include:
About half of the adults in the US have some form of gum disease, and it is the leading cause of tooth loss.
There are four different stages of gum disease: gingivitis, mild periodontitis, moderate periodontitis, and advanced periodontitis. Which stage you are at will determine the proper treatment for you.
If you’re struggling with gum disease (at any stage), you are likely a good candidate for gum disease treatment at Dublin Corners Dental. For those experiencing red or purple gums, receding gums, bleeding, soreness, bad breath, loose teeth, sensitive teeth, or pain while chewing, gum disease treatment can finally give you the relief you deserve.
To determine the best treatment for your needs, we’ll examine your gums and review your medical history during your consultation.
At Dublin Corners Dental, we offer scaling and root planing to treat gum disease. Scaling and root planing involve removing plaque, tartar, and bacteria from above the gum line and gum tissue. But before we do anything, we’ll administer local anesthesia to ensure you’re comfortable.
Once all the plaque and bacteria are removed, your dentist will then smooth out the gum line to ensure bacteria is less likely to grow there and ensure your gums can heal properly.
Your dentist will then provide aftercare instructions and may also schedule a follow-up appointment to ensure your gums are healing properly. Continual treatment may be necessary if your gum disease has progressed enough. We’ll also provide ways to prevent gum disease in the future.
Beyond scaling and root planing, medication, better hygiene, gum or soft tissue grafting, and bone grafting are also options.
